Preventions
With many ideas being formed and being used regarding ways to prevent human trafficking, some people still disagree with these methods. In the article “Human Trafficking”, author Feingold explains how tightening the borders will not stop trafficking. The recent global tightening of asylum admissions has increased trafficking by forcing many desperate people to turn into smugglers (Feingold 2). The idea of legalizing prostitution was also brought up as prevention. But, many would disagree with this statement. According to the State Department website, “where prostitution is legalized or tolerated, there is much greater demand for human trafficking victims and nearly always increase in the number of women and children into commercial sex slavery (Feingold 3). Many governments like the U.S., don’t see the legalization of prostitution having an impact on the issue. In the article, “Ancient Evil, Modern Face: The Fight Against Human Trafficking ,” explain how the debate on the legalization of prostitution is put to the side because it only pertains to one dimension of human trafficking which is sex.
